• Advert to be supplied to the booked size, excluding white space around the advert.

Export a PDF using the following settings:

• Specification: NewspaperAds_1v4
• PDF Standard: PDF/X-1a:2001
• Application presets can be downloaded from the Ghent Pdf Workgroup

Convert images to CMYK using these settings:

• Profile: WAN-IFRAnewspaper26v5 (Max TAC 260)
• Colour and Grayscale image resolution: 200 PPI (pixels per inch)
• bitmap / Lineart resolution: 600 – 1016 LPI
• Spot colours / Pantone colours: Not allowed (convert to CMYK)

Fonts:

• All fonts must be embedded or subset (files with missing fonts will be rejected)
• Black text must be 100% black, not made up of 4 colour
• Black text on white minimum 6pt
• White text on black minimum 6pt
• White text on colour minimum 10pt Sans Serif and 14pt Serif
• Colour text on colour minimum 10pt Sans Serif and 14pt Serif
• Colour text on white minimum 10pt Sans Serif and 14pt Serif
• Other: Minimum size for colour rules 2pt
• Sans serif typefaces are the best choice for newsprint reproduction. Typefaces with thin or delicate serifs and strokes and non-uniform character thickness should be avoided. Extremely thin stokes can drop out in the
• conversion process, while thick strokes can fill in on the press. For clarity and readability, we recommend using type sized at least 7 points in a single colour.

TAC Total Area Coverage:

• To avoid problems with drying and set-off The maximum total coverage should be no more than 260%. This can be achieved by separating all images with the WAN-IFRAnewspaper26v5 profile. The maximum depth in an image is reproduced with Cyan 59 %, Magenta 45 %, Yellow 41 % and Black 95 %. The filename “V5” stands for: Version 5 of the standard ICC profile, older systems may need a version 2 or 4 profile.
• Dot Gain Target 26%. Please remember to allow for dot gain when producing artwork. When you use a 50% tint in your application it will actually reproduce on newsprint as a 76% tint! This table will show you what to expect.
• The WAN-IFRAnewspaper26v5 profile has been based on the above dot gain.
